Times-Republican announces Progress and Pride banquet on tornado anniversary
The Times-Republican will host a Progress and Pride banquet on the one-year anniversary of the EF-3 tornado that swept through Marshalltown.
The July 19 banquet will be a fundraiser for the Community Foundation of Marshall County’s Rebuild Marshalltown fund and will include an event program with speakers. There will also be awards honoring some of the hometown heroes who stepped up to help the community in the wake of the tornado.
“In our work as local media we have seen first-hand what Marshalltown Strong means and want to honor that,” Times-Republican Publisher Abigail Pelzer said. “This banquet is not only a chance to give to the recovery effort, but to recognize the many heroes who stepped up to help the community.”
The Salute to Hometown Heroes Awards will recognize the unsung heroes who volunteered out of the goodness of their hearts. Information on how to nominate someone for the award will be announced in April. A committee of local leaders has been formed to select the recipients.
“The Community Foundation of Marshall County thanks the individual and business donors that have contributed to the Rebuild Marshalltown Fund,” CFMC Board Chair Steve Troskey said. “This fund allows CFMC to work with community partners to maximize the impact of long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts. We’ve seen gifts from people across the country and that demonstrates the importance and deep meaning Marshalltown has for people, even long after they may leave.”
Ticket information will be announced soon. Tickets will include admission to the program and a sit-down meal.
