A star is born in Rose
March 23, 2011 - Bennet Goldstein
Pro basketball fans out there should already know this but Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose has quickly become the league’s brightest star. His strength, quickness and penchant for making hoops at key times down the stretch has elevated his status to the current favorite for this year’s MVP award in the NBA.
All this plus he is just fun to watch, especially for this Bulls fan. He also does not flaunt his greatness and seems very humble in interviews. At 22 years old, you would think his best basketball is still ahead of him though it’s hard to imagine he can get any better.
What is even more impressive than his rise this year is the upward momentum of the Bulls. Many expected them to be middle of the pack at best in the Eastern Conference this year and yet there they sit atop the standings.
The experienced Boston Celtics and the over-hyped Miami Heat now realize they have a red-hot team to contend with in the Bulls as the playoffs near. It should be an interesting playoff stretch and who knows how it will pan out. I wouldn’t bet against Rose though.
