Promising start for 'Falling Skies'
June 22, 2011 - Bennet Goldstein
I’m not a huge fan of science fiction on TV, but “Falling Skies” might have me hooked already. In case you didn’t hear, TNT premiered the new cable series featuring alien invaders Sunday with a two-hour show that drew 5.9 million viewers.
Steven Spielberg has put his name on it and TNT publicized the mess out of it in recent weeks. If you watched any of the NBA playoffs on the network you were bombarded with ads for the show.
“Falling Skies” follows a group of people from Massachusetts led by a college professor (Noah Wyle) as they try to survive after the big alien attack. In the first episode the group had a run in with another faction of not-so-nice people. Wyle’s group was able to knock them off and imprison their leader, played intriguingly by Colin Cunningham, who now seems ready to join them.
So far the acting is pretty good and the special effects are not over the top. We’ll see how the rest of the season goes, but the debut was promising. See for yourself as the two-hour debut is planned to air again Friday night on TNT and the series picks up where it left off with a new episode Sunday night.
