Anticipating the Fall season

August 29, 2011 - Pam Rodgers
OK, I have been quiet over the summer about my TV schedule. It has been much lighter than a normal season but enjoyable all the same. With shows like Rookie Blue, White Collar, Leverage, Covert Affairs and Royal Pains, my TV options are never dull. But as August draws to a close, I start to get ready for my excited television line-up with some new ones thrown in here and there.

The big four are Chuck, Castle, Big Bang Theory and NCIS. Unfortunately my favorite show, Chuck, will not be returning until October for its fifth (and final) season. Sad though that may be, I am still ready for the others.

Castle left off with the biggest cliffhanger last season, Beckett was shot in the chest (if you don’t know that by now than you don’t watch the show). Being a lead character, I have no doubt she will survive but the trick will be catching the guy who did it. There is also the whispered confession of Castle’s love as he is holding the bleeding Beckett in his arms. The will they/won’t they dynamic has always been very strong on this show so it will be interesting to see what drama they draw out from that.

Big Bang Theory had a “meh” cliffhanger. Don’t get me wrong it was a big game changer, but I didn’t like it. The show deals with certain things is an slightly unrealistic fashion as far as relationships go, particularly when it comes to the lead female character, Penny. Most of the time, I can't tell that the show is done by the same creators as Two and Half Men. However, the cliffhanger of season 4 showed it the most out of all the seasons. So I will just have to wait and see what they do with this one. (Notice I didn’t say what it was. I don’t like it so much I don’t even want to type it.)

NCIS had sort of a ho-hum ending as well. Instead of the “go out with a bang” type cliffhanger, NCIS left mainly confusion and uncertainty. Several story lines were left open ended so I am praying for some cleaver explanation and fun episodes as the story lines get wrapped up. I love the show so hopefully season nine will wow me as per usual.

Other shows I’m looking forward too are Grey’s Anatomy and NCIS Los Angeles. While Grey’s has tumbled down my favorite show list, I really enjoyed last season. I am looking forward to that continuing in season eight. From what I have been reading, there will be a shake up of the hospital's authority dynamic. Let's hope they do that better then the merger/chief swap debacle of season six. NCIS LA had a better sophomore season than its breakout season. I found myself more invested in the stories than the previous years. This is largely due to the two cast additions they made. I love Deeks and Nell. They bring a great dynamic to the show. The way the Deeks/Kensi and Nell/Eric combos were played were very smooth and intriguing. I love a good will they/won’t they (obviously).

Private Practice I’m not sure I fully into. My sister got me watching last season and I love the Cooper/Charlotte story but I’m not sure I like it well enough to be a constant viewer.

Dancing with the Stars is always iffy depending on the cast of “celebrities” that year. Last year had some OK stars, but I’m hoping for a bigger name this year. The Sing Off is back in the fall and it’s up against DWTS. I have to say, I’m not sure which one I will watch. I'm not in love with either of them so it’s another a wait and see type of situation.

I haven’t decided which new shows may be added to my already busy television schedule. This blog doesn’t show it but I have other hobbies besides watching TV. They just aren’t as fun to blog about :)
