The Coliseum is cool
November 4, 2011 - Andrew Potter
When I first moved to Marshalltown, I thought Veterans Memorial Coliseum was pretty unique. How many towns our size have an arena in the middle of downtown? Well, the more I learn about the structure the more I’m impressed. Just in the last week I’ve been there when it hosted the annual pancake breakfast and then when it hosted the Downtown Tot Town indoor playground. The playground will be featured in Saturday’s Times-Republican.
Talk about versatility. This facility also hosts a plethora of city leagues including volleyball and basketball and trade shows. It is also the place an outdoor city event goes when it’s raining outside, like the Little Mr. and Miss Oktemberfest crowning a couple of years ago.
Yes, it may make you smell a little musty after you’re in there awhile, but that’s all part of the Coliseum mystique.
