Martina and George bringing the excitement

February 27, 2012 - Pam Rodgers
I attended the Martina McBride and George Strait concert at Wells Fargo on Feb. 24, and it was fantastic. I was really excited to see Martina McBride. She is one of my favorite country artists of all time. I had seen George in concert two years ago when he toured with Reba, so the big draw, for me at least, was Martina.

She played for a little over an hour and it was song after song. She has one of the greatest voices in all of music, and it was great to hear her belt out all her tops hits. She brought the house down with “Broken Wing.” The crowd stood and cheered for a solid two minutes after the final soaring note of the song.

Martina said, “I think that’s the loudest thing I have ever heard.” Which cause the crowed to cheer even louder. It was electrifying to be a part of that experience. She wowed us again by ending with her smash hit “Independence Day.” Martina delivered on all fronts. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to hear her sing live.

George was his normal guitar-playing self. He went from song to song with great ease and charisma. He played a lot of his new material, which I wasn’t a huge fan of because I wasn't as familiar with it. I love his older songs so I would have loved a few more on his set list, but I was still very entertained. He still didn’t sing my person favorite song of his, “I Cross My Heart,” so that was the biggest disappointment. Overall, It was a great show.

Oh, and I was sitting in the 100s fairly close to the stage so I got some great photos of both singers. I would post them to this blog but I haven’t had time to process any of them yet. They are still being held captive on my camera card. I can’t wait to see how they turned out!

For those unfamiliar with “Broken Wing,” I have included her music video. It’s not the same as experiencing it live but you can imagine what that final note was like shaking the rafters of Wells Fargo Arena.
