Another series to get into?
March 21, 2012 - Pam Rodgers
There has been a lot of buzz for the upcoming film release of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel “The Hunger Games.” I’ll be perfectly honest, I hadn’t really ever heard of it until the beginning of the year. Therefore, I have yet to read the books. However, all of the waves this movie is making, even prior to it being released, makes me interested to see where these fans are coming from.
Books-in-to-films is not a new interest of mine. I’ve read the Twilight Saga and most of the Harry Potter books (technically I skipped the first two books, a fact that bothers my sister to this day). I also read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books (Millennium Trilogy) earlier this year. I have also have been slowly making my way through the Eragon books (Inheritance Saga). I know that movie attempt tanked but the books are interesting enough. There may be more but I’m drawing a blank at the moment.
Last weekend, I was shopping/walking around Wal-Mart, I came upon the display of “The Hunger Games” books. I gave in and purchased the first novel. I haven’t found time to start it yet. It’s just sitting on my desk at home taunting me to take the plunge.
As if that wasn’t enough, I do the layout for our Applause section. It should come as no surprise that “The Hunger Games” will be the cover story in tomorrow’s issue. I read the review of the movie, and it intrigued me even more. I guess tonight I will have to make time to start the novel version of “the next big movie franchise.”
