‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ a better take
June 13, 2012 - Pam Rodgers
I believe I have mentioned before that I love fairy tales. I grew up on the Disney movies and absolutely love ABC’s hit drama, “Once Upon A Time.” I was excited and slightly confused that two film versions centering around the Snow White tale were to be released this year. My interest was piqued, so I wanted to see them in order see their take on such an iconic story.
Regrettably, I saw Mirror, Mirror and I absolutely hated it. So when Snow White and the Huntsman came out, the odds were definitely in it’s favor.
I really enjoyed the film. It was very much an action, adventure tale as opposed to the classic love story of the Snow White. The filmmakers did a good job translating the story to fit their vision.
Charlize Theron was a fantastic evil queen. Kristen Stewart was criticized for her work as Snow White. I thought she did a respectable job. Could they have cast a better actress for the role? Probably. But you could tell that she was working hard to play a believable heroine and not just Bella Swan with a British accent (which I admit, I thought that sometimes).
So Snow White and the Huntsman definitely wins the battle between the two 2012 films. It's definitely worth a view, even if you aren't a fairy tale buff.
