Iowa's Bluder announces captains for new season
August 22, 2012 - Troy Hyde
The captains for the 2012-13 Iowa women's basketball season have been announced by Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder.
Leading the Hawkeyes as captains this season will be seniors Jaime Printy, Morgan Johnson and Trisha Nesbitt, Bluder announced Tuesday.
“I think our team did an excellent job identifying team captains for the upcoming season,” Bluder said. “Jaime, Morgan and Trisha are exceptional leaders and will serve as terrific role models for our young players. They are perfect examples of what a true student-athlete should be within our program.”
Printy led the team in scoring as a junior before going down midway through the season with a torn ACL. She was an honorable mention All-American selection as a sophomore and a three-time All-Big Ten pick as well.
Printy averaged nearly 17 points per game and also led the team in steals per game with two and free throw percentage at 88.8 percent. She also was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team last season and is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten pick.
Johnson also earned a Capital One Academic All-District honor as a sophomore and was named Academic All-Big Ten as a sophomore and junior.
On the court, Johnson earned second team all-Big Ten honors after leading the Big Ten and ranking seventh nationally in field goal percentage at 55 percent. She also ranked second in the league and 26th in the country with 2.3 blocks per game.
Johnson also was Iowa's second leading scorer on the season, trailing only Printy in that category.
Nesbitt has battled injures throughout her time at Iowa but has played in 65 career games. She also earned two Academic All-Big Ten awards. She is expected to play a much bigger role on the court this season, barring any setback with another injury.
