August 22, 2012 - Andy Heintz
The Northern Iowa football team will once again start a season ranked in the FCS top 10, this time coming in at No. 7 of the initial preseason poll that was released today.

The Panthers are locked and loaded again and will make yet another run at a national championship. They also will have a chance to take two FBS Big Ten Conference schools when they open the season against Wisconsin and then play in Iowa City against instate rival Iowa.

Northern Iowa garnered 466 points in the poll, which was just four points away from the sixth spot held by Old Dominion. The top five spots are occupied by North Dakota State, Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern, Montana State and Appalachian State. ND State (19), Sam Houston State (6) and Georgia Southern (1) all received first-place votes.
