Des Moines native Jok now a Hawk

September 24, 2012 - Troy Hyde
Des Moines prep Peter Jok must have had a great visit to Iowa City this weekend.

The West Des Moines Valley star decided Saturday night that he was committing to the Hawkeyes and officially made that decision on Sunday when he told Fran McCaffery and the rest of the Iowa coaching staff.

Jok is the first known commitment to the Hawkeyes’ 2013 class, but Iowa won’t have many others coming in with just a few scholarship openings this offseason. Other offers according to ESPN.com included Iowa State, Creighton, Clemson, Illinois and Xavier. Rivals.com also lists Drake as a school with an offer out to Jok.

Jok is a three-star athlete who is ranked No. 1 in Iowa and No. 45 in the nation, according to ESPN.com. He played through an injured shoulder last year and averaged 10.2 points per game for West Des Moines Valley.

As a sophomore at Des Moines Roosevelt, Jok averaged 18.5 points and seven rebounds. He plays for Kingdom Hoops on the AAU scene. ESPN.com lists Jok as a 6-foot-5, 180-pound prospect. Rivals.com has him at 6-foot-6, 210 pounds.
