Jerry Palm has both Iowa, ISU in Big Dance
December 27, 2012 - Andy Heintz
It is early in the college basketball season, but if the NCAA Tournament started today, both Iowa and Iowa State would be in the dance.
That according to CBS Sports Bracketologist Jerry Palm, who has the Hawkeyes and Cyclones both as 12 seeds in play-in games.
Palm has Iowa as the No. 12 seed out of the West playing against No. 12 seed BYU for the chance to take on fifth-seeded Wyoming in a first-round game. The top seed in the West is Arizona, according to Palm, and a second-round matchup could be Iowa against conference rival and No. 4 seed Michigan State.
Iowa State is No. 12 seed out of the Midwest playing in the play-in game against North Carolina. The winner of that game would then play fifth-seeded Georgetown, according to Palm's breakdown. The top seed out of the Midwest is Michigan and a potential second-round matchup would pit Iowa State up against the fourth-seeded Wolfpack of NC State.
ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi does not have Iowa or Iowa State in the NCAA Tournament in his latest predictions. He does have the Cyclones as the last four teams out though.
Both Lunardi and Palm have seven Big Ten teams advancing to the Big Dance. Palm sees six Big 12 teams in the tournament, while Lunardi only predicts four to this point.
