Spring training 2013
February 4, 2013 - Mike Donahey
Baseball fans can rejoice — Super Bowl XLVII is history.
Now, the countdown to spring training can begin. Pitchers and catchers traditionally report first and yours truly is providing the dates for midwest clubs courtesy of Major League Baseball. There is one exception, however, those for the world champion San Francisco Giants. That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?
More Marshalltownians will be following the Minnesota Twins spring training games as native Jeff Clement hopes to make the major-league team. Clement is hoping to stay healthy this year as injuries prevented him from competing at 100 percent in Seattle and Pittsburgh.
Here are teams and dates. Pitchers and catchers date first, then full squad. Chicago Cubs: Feb. 11/Feb. 17, Chicago White Sox: Feb 12/Feb. 17, Kansas City Royals: Feb. 12/Feb. 15 , Milwaukee Brewers: Feb. 13/Feb. 16 , Minnesota Twins: Feb. 13/Feb. 16 , San Francisco Giants: Feb. 13/Feb. 16, St. Louis Cardinals: Feb. 12/Feb. 15
Google your favorite team to find spring training locales. The regular season kicks off on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball March 31. All clubs swing into action April 1.
