New book series of 2013
February 13, 2013 - Pam Rodgers
Throughout years, I have jumped on the bandwagon of multiple popular book series. In most cases, the biggest reason is because I hear a movie coming out based on the books, and I want to be ahead of the curve. Plus it’s always nice to start a book series a few books in that way you can go from one to the next with no creative works in-between.
Anyway, for my birthday, my brother gave me the box-set of the Mortal Instruments series. (Thanks, James!) The first book, “City of Bones,” is set to be released in film form in August, giving me plenty of time to read it between now and then. I finished it in three days.
Author Cassandra Clare writes an intriguing world of shadowhunters and the evil beings they hunt — demons and downworlders (vampires, werewolves, faeries, etc.). I seem to have a liking for the supernatural; although, it is mainly a more romanticized format as opposed to the more gory approaches.
I am already at part three of the second book, “City of Ashes.” Clare has weaved a twisted family history within the shadowhunting world. It’s fun trying to figure out how each piece is going to fit into the overall story. The main character, Clary, grew up not knowing she was a shadowhunter by blood. She is slowly showing her natural potential. I can’t wait to read what happens next with her story and the rest of the characters.
