Determining Danica's Daytona

February 19, 2013 - Andrew Potter

Congratulations to Danica Patrick who has won the pole for Sunday's Daytona 500, the first woman to ever do so. NASCAR may be taking this a little too far as it has posted a story on its website titled: "Can anyone stop Danica at Daytona?" Well, the answer for me is an emphatic "yes," and I'm not being sexist. Patrick has won just one race in her entire career in the top tiered circuits, taking the checkers at an Indy Car race in Japan in 2008. She hasn't been the luckiest racer during her time in NASCAR, but sometime you make your own luck and Patrick has never done herself any favors. I realize NASCAR is going to milk Patrick getting the pole for all it's worth leading up to the race, since she is one of the sport's most popular drivers. I just don't feel starting first is worth that much considering her past history in stock cars. I'm predicting about a 20th place finish for her Sunday.
