MHS coaching hires appear to be far off
February 22, 2013 - Andy Heintz
Tim Bell, Marshalltown High School's outgoing Athletic Director, told me yesterday that any coaching vacancies at the school will likely be filled after the district fills his athletic director position.
Bell most of the jobs open at the school have not been posted yet. That likely means that the hiring process for the football coach is still in the early stages. Bell's position would likely be filled first and Bell also said that he doesn't know if the district is going to want his input on a replacement or not.
Check back in the coming months as we get closer to a decision.
In other football-related news, MHS senior center Zach Smith has decided on where he will extend his football career and will sign a scholarship to William Penn on Friday at 9 a.m. at the MHS Athletic Office.
Smith was two-year starter at the Bobcats and helped MHS win 14 games the past two seasons.
I was truly disappointed when the Gladbrook-Reinbeck and No. 6 North Tama game got postponed tonight. I love covering Class 1A sports having grown up around that level myself.
The atmosphere at those games is second to none and the game will be fun to cover when it takes place. It has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. tonight in Conrad, which is a change from the original location at Grundy Center.
I like that the district final pits not only two of our area schools but also two rivals. The Rebels and Redhawks do not play in the same conference and are a pair in wrestling but in every other sport, they are rivals nonetheless.
The Rebels ended North Tama's season in the district semifinal in Traer last year but the Redhawks beat G-R in Reinbeck this season by 13 points.
