Nice to see Shatner get some work
February 24, 2013 - Wes Burns
I’m currently watching the Oscars; so for those worried about any spoilers about winners don’t worry, the ceremony still has another eight or ten hours left. I can tell you that some guy who looked like a James Bond villain won for cinematography, but that’s about all I know. I thought it was strange so many people were worried about Seth McFarlane hosting the show. Did they think that he was going to come out and do Stewie’s voice the entire time? Try to animate the Oscars? Figure out a way to do cutaway gags in a live broadcast? Actually, he did do the last one. McFarlane started the show with an extended bit featuring a giant screen filled with the bloated and aging face of William “Captain Kirk” Shatner. Shatner was trying to tell McFarlane about how terrible the show was going to be in the future, and yet somehow his time traveling jaunt did not include a warning to himself about avoiding fried cheese. However the rest of the night turns out it will be nice to know that, after all the postmortems about the show, the second guessing the winners/losers and complaining about how nobody took it seriously/took it too seriously that at least Shatner was able to make another mortgage payment. Ok, they just announced a nomination for the “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and cut to a shot of the cast of “Silver Linings Playbook.” I gotta get back to this.
