Getting my reality TV fix

April 17, 2013 - Pam Rodgers
I try to avoid it, but I can’t seem to get “reality” television out of my to do list on TiVo. Granted I don’t watch the inane drivel like the Kardashians or any of the housewives shows. I get my fix from competitive shows like “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Voice.”

Both shows are on Monday nights so it’s a mini miracle I can keep up with both of the them. Thankfully, the unpredictable, hiatus-filled guessing game that is March and April programing makes it easy to watch the six hours of “reality” TV while I wait for my scripted to shows to return full force. (Thank God for TV Guide!)

But I digress.

This year has been quite enjoyable for both shows. “Dancing with the Stars” actually had some “celebrities” I have heard of and was excited to see on the dance floor. My two favorite are Kellie Pickler and Aly Raisman.

Kellie Pickler is a country artist and I love her music. She’s dancing with Derek Hough (my favorite pro dancer) so I was excited to see them in action before the show even started. Watching Aly Raisman in the olympics was inspiring. Therefore, I was happy to hear she was following Shawn Johnson’s footsteps. So far she and her partner Mark Ballas have been so fun to watch each week.

“Dancing with the Stars” is at the halfway point. If the right people go home the rest of the season, it’s shaping up to be a very exciting finale.

“The Voice” is a surprising addiction. I was a very casual viewer in the fall season. I relied on my brother to keep me posted about the happening on the hit NBC show. I realized that I couldn’t do that for the spring season because James will be in China for two weeks. The fourth season has had amazing talent. My favorite is Judith Hill. I may be a little biases though because she was Michael Jackson’s duet partner for This is It.

Two episodes of the battle rounds have aired and there is plenty more competition to go. I’m excited to see what happens next and which singer will surprise me the most.

Usher and Shakira have been great additions to the show. It was hilarious to watch them tackle the blind auditions. Right now Team Adam seems to have the best team (that’s Judith’s team in case your keeping track). Blake has compiled a great team as usual. We’ll see if the new coaches can give these past winners a run for their money.
