Storms postpone more baseball, softball games
June 24, 2013 - Andy Heintz
This was supposed to be about the crowning of North Iowa Cedar League champions. There are big games that could decide the final champions in both baseball and softball but the week got off to a slow start Monday with several cancellation around the area thanks to heavy rain and flooding.
Here is a rundown of some postponements and some information on when the games will be made up.
The Marshalltown baseball and softball doubleheaders at Fort Dodge were both postponed Monday. The softball team will make up their doubleheader on Thursday. No news yet on the baseball games. Both Bobcat teams were swept by the Dodgers in Marshalltown earlier this season.
The West Marshall and East Marshall baseball game tonight had big implications for the NICL West standings. The Trojans are undefeated and the Mustangs have just two losses. The game was postponed and will be played hopefully on Wednesday. The East Marshall at West Marshall softball game also did not take place Monday and will be made up next Monday night.
The AGWSR baseball and softball games at Grundy Center were both postponed and both contests will be played Wednesday.
North Tama's baseball team cancelled its game with GMG on Monday. And to make room for other make-up games, the Redhawks cancelled their game with South Tama County on July 1.
South Tama also cancelled its game with Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Monday. The make-up date for that postponement will be July 3. South Tama also was supposed to play Montezuma on July 5 but that game has been cancelled because Montezuma will make up its game against North Mahaska on that day after it got called off Monday.
West Marshall and South Tama tried to play a make-up doubleheader a few weeks back but lightning forced that game to be postponed before the first game ended. The opener went extra innings and West Marshall is currently leading by four runs with South Tama batting with one out in the bottom of the 10th. The first game will be completed and the second game will both be played in State Center on July 5 starting at 5 p.m. The games will follow West Marshall's game against Nevada.
The AGWSR and BCLUW softball game tomorrow will have big NICL West implications. AGWSR can lock up at least a share of the conference with a win. BCLUW can make things interesting between both schools as well as East Marshall.
Hopefully weather does not spoil this one too.
