Aubrey update: 8 months old
August 5, 2013 - Andy Heintz
It has been awhile since I updated you all on Aubrey. She hit the 8-month old mark on Saturday.
Things change so much at this age apparently. I can't claim to be an expert since she is our first child, but I think she may change in some way, shape or form every single day.
She is now sitting up on her own for the most part. The only exception is when she is really tired and her body doesn't feel like holding her up. She rolls over constantly is starting to scoot around the house. No crawling yet and her scoots are only backwards but any day the crawling will happen. She can get up on all fours while lying on her tummy and she wiggles non-stop. To me, that means crawling is close.
I am guilty of being the parent that compares Aubrey at her age to others close to her age. If I know someone who has a baby who did such and such at such and such age, I think my little Aubs should be able to do it too. Then I am reminded by the wife that Aubrey was born nearly 4 months early so it may take a little more time.
I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting her to be great. That will never change. I am too competitive. And she will either love me for it or hate me for it. To be continued on that one.
We took her to the zoo for the first time recently. Most of the animals were too far away for her to know what was going on, but she especially went crazy over the goats inside the Kids' Zone. Her mouth opened wide and she started wiggling every time she saw one. That told us she was excited because that's what she does every time she gets close to our cat Bella at home.
She went down her first slide at the zoo. And went on the train too. Still wondering how she felt about those. There weren't too many reactions.
It is hard to explain how much fun being a parent is.
Check back with me when Aubrey is moving -- and grabbing everything -- to find out how much fun I am having then. Or when she meets that cute boy for the first time. Not looking forward to those days.
