Recent weather forces Bobcat cancellations
January 7, 2014 - Andy Heintz
The recent cold weather movement across Iowa has given high school athletic directors headaches the past few days.
Schedules are being torn up and thrown out as school cancellations have wiped out events Monday and now Tuesday.
Both Urbandale and Marshalltown school districts will be closed Tuesday so the girl’s and boy’s varsity doubleheader at the Roundhouse scheduled for Tuesday will be made up at a later date.
That will not affect the recent re-scheduled of Monday’s swim meet at Southeast Polk featuring the Bobcats and host Rams. The original scheduled date was pushed back to Tuesday, and according MHS Activities Director Craig Huegel, the meet is still on as scheduled at this point.
The Marshalltown triangular wrestling meet in Waukee that also features West Des Moines Valley will be made up Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 5:30 p.m. It was postponed on Monday.
The other event at Marshalltown that was scheduled for Monday involved the Bobcat bowling teams. They also were slated to be in Waukee but now will compete in their meet at Warrior Lanes on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m.
I’ll try to keep you posted with any reschedules we have in the next few days. It doesn’t appear to be getting warmer any time soon.
-- The December 19th swim meet against Newton has been re-scheduled for Jan. 13th at the MHS pool. Action will start at 5:30 p.m.
-- The December 20th basketball doubleheader against Ames will be made up Saturday. Feb. 1, at the Roundhouse. The varsity girls tip off at 1:30 p.m. and the Bobcat varsity boys will start at around 3 p.m.
