Bobcat girls travel to ranked foe in regional opener
January 27, 2014 - Troy Hyde
A familiar opponent will greet the Marshalltown girls’ basketball team on their home floor for a regional semifinal game. And the Bobcats hope the result the second time around is much better than the first meeting.
Marshalltown (3-13) will travel to Ankeny Centennial on Feb. 22 where they will take on the Class 5A No. 9 Jaguars at 7 p.m. The Jaguars (10-5) beat the Bobcats at the Roundhouse, 76-29, on Dec. 17. Future Creighton volleyball player Jaali Winters headlines the basketball team, too, averaging 14 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
The other side of the Region 3 bracket features the winner of Ames (8-6) and Waterloo East (0-14) taking on sixth-ranked Waterloo West (14-2) in the other semifinal. The Bobcats have not yet played Ames as that game has been postponed multiple times.
Waterloo West's roster includes future Iowa State Cyclone Blair Thomas, Kate Letkewicz and Haley Puk, who are all averaging at least 14.3 points per game. Ames' leading scorer is Molly Sanders, who is scoring 14.2 points per game and dishing out more than 4 assists per game.
The regional final will be hosted by Marshalltown on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m.
