Iowa's Logic nets B1G Player of Week honor

February 12, 2014 - Troy Hyde
Two near triple-double efforts was enough to garner Iowa point guard Samantha Logic Big Ten Conference recognition on Tuesday.

Logic recorded a triple-double in a road win at No. 9 Penn State and came up just a few rebounds shy of a second straight triple-double against Northwestern a few days later and the Big Ten Conference named her conference player of the week for her efforts.

Logic, the Big Ten leader in assists at 7.4 per game, averaged 17 points, 10 assists and 9.5 rebounds per game in the two Hawkeye victories.

She posted her second triple-double of the year and the third of her career with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the win over ninth-ranked Penn State. She now has the most triple-doubles in Iowa history.

“Sam contributes in so many ways that sometimes you do not even recognize how well she is playing,” said Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder, who became the all-time winningest coach in program history (270 wins) following Iowa’s win on Monday night over Northwestern. “You look at the stat sheet after the game, and you are amazed. She is consistently putting up amazing numbers; this is not a one-time thing, it is every single night.”

Logic registered the 21st double-double of her career against Northwestern on Monday when posted 20 points and dished out 10 assists, while pulling down eight rebounds. She finished 7-for-7 from the foul line as well.

The award marks Logic’s fifth career Player of the Week honor, and third this season (Nov. 12, Dec. 23). Logic has been named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll four additional times this season.

Iowa (19-6, 7-4) has won 7-of-9 overall. The Hawkeyes return to action Thursday, hosting Illinois at 8 p.m. on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa then plays at No. 25 Purdue at 1 p.m. Sunday.
