MHS planning out-of-state trips
March 18, 2014 - Andrew Potter
Two groups of Marshalltown High School students will be on the move in the next few weeks as they take out-of-state trips. The new student group known as the Delegation of the Advancement of History will visit Chicago this weekend (March 21-22). It is led by teacher Tim Johnson and the 13 students plan to learn more about history at places such at the Field Museum and Art Institute. Another group known as the health careers club, led by MHS dean of students Dan Terrones, will take a trip to St. Louis to visit Washington University Hospital and hit the tourist sites April 4-5. Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center is paying for the trip and MMSC CEO John Hughes and 26 students will be along for the ride. Terrones said many of these students don’t get a chance to leave Marshalltown that much, if at all. “We love these types of experiences for our kids,” Terrones said. Out-of-state trips need prior school board approval before being held and the board approved these trips at its March 17 meeting.
