Volunteer firefighters deserve our respect

April 15, 2014 - Andrew Potter

Take some time to thank the volunteer, and non-volunteer, firefighters in our area when you have a chance to. Last Friday, the volunteers from smaller area towns were on the go from one fire to another during dry and windy conditions. A few were field fires but I made my way to one massive home fire on Taylor Avenue southeast of Marshalltown. Volunteers from several area fire departments came in droves to help out. Many were running around lining up tanker trucks, steadying the hoses and trying to put out a massive wind-aided blaze. These volunteers are willing to drop everything and help out the community without pay. I don’t think we can thank these volunteer firefighters enough for their work.
