| | Derby needed underdog storyMay 4, 2009 - Andrew PotterThis past Kentucky Derby last Saturday had the least amount of hype for it that I can remember heading into the race. No heavily-favored horse or eye-catching story lines. That is why the race needed what it got — an improbable winner in Mine That Bird. The replays were unbelievable how jockey Calvin Borel squeezed that horse through with a move that would make a Los Angeles commuter feel proud. That race is what sports is all about — even a 50-1 underdog can reach the top.
