Dog parks have ups and downs
August 13, 2009 - Andrew Potter
When I was living in Chicago I lived near a park which had a leash-free dog area like one proposed for Riverview Park in Marshalltown. I can see there are good and bad things associated with the park. First the bad. That area of the park always had a bad smell to it. I remember holding my breath while walking or jogging around that part of park. Another drawback is dogs that “don’t play well with others” sometimes have owners that don’t seem to care. The good parts are the owners seem to enjoy letting their dogs roam free and it seems beneficial for the dogs who are often cooped up at home. It can make for some nice dog watching for those of us without dogs if you don’t stand downwind from the area.
