No love for honey bees
October 6, 2009 - Pam Rodgers
I never thought that I would have to be my own home's defense system against insects. However, I didn't know that a big group of honey bees would make their home in the gutter of my house. Last weekend, the whole family was on alert to kill any honey bee that had found its way into the house. Despite our best efforts with heavy duty spray, the bees would just keep coming back.
Monday was the worst day yet. Usually it was one or two a day. I killed 5 total, four all at once. My front entry way was a danger zone for bee stings until I finally killed all of them. I have never been stung by a bee (knock on wood), and I didn't really want to find out if I was allergic when I was home by myself.
We had finally had enough, my dad got "bee killing dust" and used a turkey baster to squirt it behind our gutters and hopefully that takes care of the issue. I certainly don't want to worry every time I'm relaxing at home about geting stung by a bee.
The downfall...now we need new eaves.
