Dancing woes: confused with ‘DWTS’

October 14, 2009 - Pam Rodgers
If you have read my blog before, you would know I am avid TV/movie viewer. I was searching for something else to talk about besides these subjects but alas, I am back to the topic. This time, I have some thoughts about this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.” So far, I have a few favorites and have enjoyed the show, for the most part. The thing I can’t stand this season is the judging. It just doesn’t make sense. The dancer with the most talent in Mya. Sure she has previous dance experience but that doesn't always translate into ballroom dancing, just watch So You Think You Can Dance on Fox for proof. Anyway, head judge Len Goodman does not cut her any slack. He does the thing that annoys me the most, judges her based on what he thinks she should be able to do and not on how she actually danced the dance, which is better than anyone else on the show with the same choreography. It is the most frustrating thing ever! It’s just not fair. I will admit, on the most current show Len wasn’t nearly as grumpy but this has been his worst season playing the role of the old grouchy codger perfectly.
I also think Carrie Ann Inaba is too much of a softy, and Bruno Tonioli is crazy but he’s also the most entertaining one to listen to. He is most likely my favorite judge because I find myself agreeing with him the most. USAToday reported that the show was losing popularity, and my guess is that it is in part because of the judging. I don’t want them to just say they loved every dance all the time but too much negativity is enough to turn anyone away. The other is there are simply too many competitors this season. Keep it down so it makes it easier to watch and decide who to vote for.
Don’t let this turn anyone away from trying out the show. It’s great entertainment and worth tuning in on ABC for the performance show on Mondays at 7 p.m. CST and the results show Tuesdays at 8 p.m. One last thing, go Natalie Caughlin and Mya!!!!!
