| | Life as a bell ringerDecember 7, 2009 - Andrew PotterRecently, I rang the bell for the holiday kettle for the Salvation Army with a co-worker at a local grocery store. We lucked out and were able to get an indoor location. In these days of debit cards not too many people have change on them, but many went out of their way to leave something in the kettle — some even plunking down five dollars at a time. My shift was only for an hour so it didn’t get too boring and got to say “hi” to some people who were shopping. I did drop the bell three times trying to make it sound louder. The next time I visited the store I made sure I slid a buck into the kettle. Now that I’ve been on the other side I want to show the ringer his time was appreciated.
