Excited for tradition
December 22, 2009 - Pam Rodgers
Every year around Christmas time I get really excited Christmas Eve and Christms Day. For all of the obvious reasons, presents, good food, time off, etc. But I also get excited for a big family tradition that has been going on every Dec. 24 since I can remember. As with my Thanksgiving traditions, my mother’s side of the family has just as big of a celebration at Christmas as in November. In fact it’s bigger. We have 40 plus people in my Grandmother's house. It’s basically a Bushong family reunion! Everyone from my mom’s immediate family and extended family makes an appearance.
Here’s what we do. We have a buffet style Christmas dinner because there are far too many people to do a formal sit down meal. The whole family opens gifts on Christmas Eve. We stay over night...using every bed, couch, recliner, love seat, floor space available to sleep. On Christmas morning, Santa arrives with more gifts and we share a breakfast. Then we all leave and most likely go to the other side of the family tree to celebrate Christmas again.
It is a great tradition and I hope it continues for a very long time.
I will return to my reviews in my next blog.
