Avatar Awesomeness

January 18, 2010 - Pam Rodgers
The most talked about movie of 2009-10 has been honored with a Golden Globe for best drama film. James Cameron received best director, and I have to say it is well deserved. I have seen this movie twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed it both times. Although, my viewing experiences were complete opposites with the only similarity being Avatar. The first time, I saw it in 2D in what I like to call a “shoebox of a theater.” The place only had seven rows and the screen was comparable to my brother's 52” plasma. In short, it was a small place. Despite the size of the venue. I loved the movie. It had the right amount of set-up, action, plot line, love interest and a logical conclusion. I see it as a social commentary on how white supremacy is viewed. It says a lot about our treatment of the Indians, slaves and others of different skin colors and beliefs.
The second time I went to Avatar, I went to the Plaza 9 here in town and saw it in 3D. There couldn’t be a better movie suited for 3D. It was amazing. It made the world of Pandora more magnificent and breath taking. Cameron’s vision is endless. The attention to detail is beyond anything I have seen before.
My advice to anyone watching the movie, don’t read too much into the Marine portrayal. They are not on Marine sanctioned orders but on recon led by the psychoticness of the Colonel. Don’t forget the redeeming characters from the Marine Corps. that show them to be the honorable group we think they are.
It is a must see for all movie lovers. It was a truly amazing movie that lived up to all the hype leading up to the premier. Next step, the Oscars.
