| | I've seen this beforeApril 28, 2010 - Andrew PotterMy alma mater, Bradley University, made the exact same move Iowa State just made but Bradley did it eight years ago. Bradley hired a former player who went on to play in the NBA as its basketball coach just like the Cyclones. Bradley hired Jim Les in 2002 and Iowa State just named Fred Hoiberg as its leader. Les had minimal coaching experience in the WNBA when he started and Hoiberg has none. Les got Bradley to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament in 2006 but other than that has been pretty pedestrian as a coach even with four 20-win seasons. Hoiberg’s NBA credentials should land a big recruit here and there, but he’ll have plenty of on-the-job learning to do in the next few years. It’s anybody’s guess how this will work out, but let’s hope “The Mayor” doesn’t tarnish his beloved legacy. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
