Very good summer season
August 2, 2010 - Pam Rodgers
This summer has been good for summer television shows. Up until last year, I didn’t watch any summer TV shows. I thought of summer as a time to do other things than watch shows. Of course, this was prior to the DVR days, and that has a big impact on my options. Now I can still do the things I want to during the day and watch what I want at my leisure.
Now, I have three shows that I have watched before (White Collar, Leverage and So You Think you Can Dance?) and two new ones, (Rookie Blue, which I already blogged about, and Covert Affairs).
White Collar and Leverage are as good as always with humor, action and interesting plot lines. They are easy to keep up with and exciting episode to episode. So You Think you Can Dance? has had a solid season. It has a different format this season, so that took some adjusting to, but overall I like it. It sucks that there is only one girl left in the competition but Lauren is great so I’m glad she has remained. Kent or Lauren are my favorites to win; so, I hope to see them get past this week and into next week’s finale.
Now onto the new stuff. As I mentioned before, Rookie Blue is a very intriguing show about new cops. It has good characters and a great premise that make me wish it were Thursday every day of the week.
Covert Affairs is a great show. It reminds me a lot of Alias, which my favorite show when it was on air and still remains in my top 5 for all time shows. Piper Perabo does a great job in the lead as Annie Walker (another Agent Walker throws me for a loop because of the kick butt Agent Sarah Walker on NBC's Chuck, but I like the comparison). Annie is new to the agency and has been accelerated because of her connections and language skills. Auggie is another character on the show. I love him. He is the computer specialist and is a blind former field agent. He is pretty much amazing. I'm glad to see someone with a disability being just as effective as a "normal" person. I can’t see where they are going with the show. I hope it’s on for awhile so we can see what the creators come up with for Annie and the CIA to do.
