| | What to do with $1 millionSeptember 15, 2010 - Andrew PotterIt’s a question that is posed often — what would you do if you had $1 million to spend. The Marshalltown Community School District actually is attempting to answer this question. As part of the federal Education Jobs Act, the district is receiving a $1 million grant. It is designed to hire back teachers who have been let go due to funding cuts or retain teachers who may have been let go in the future. Marshalltown has not dealt with terminating teachers due to budget cuts this past year, so now district staff have to look at just where the money will be spent. They are looking at ways it can be used to help student achievement. If you think about $1 million being a lot of money it is but keep in mind the Marshalltown district is working with a $60 million budget. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
