The foundation for a good show
September 25, 2010 - Pam Rodgers
I watched the series premier of JJ Abrams new show Undercovers, which is on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. I have to say that It has captured my interest. It has all the makings of another good CIA type drama. I like the main characters, Steven and Samantha Bloom. I was a huge fan of JJ's last CIA drama, Alias, so I'm excited to see what ideas he has for this show.
The Blooms were formerly CIA agents but five years ago, they quit the life, got married and started normal lives together. They are running a catering business when they are approached to help locate an old colleague of theirs who hasn't checked in with the agency. So they are thrust back into the spy world and having never worked together before, got to see each other in action. Inevitably, by the end of the show, they are asked to rejoin the agency on a black ops basis, which means they will maintain their "normal" lives will go on top secret government missions to help save the day.
I thought it has a strong storyline. The writing was excellent and well acted. It is hard to completely judge a show by its first episode. The best compliment I can say is that it has peaked my interest and I am looking forward to seeing where this show will take me.
