Walking around downtown Marshalltown in the days following the Oktemberfest parade I've seen more flattened candy on the sidewalks than I have in the past few years. Much like Milli Vanilli I'm going to blame this phenomenon on the rain. Near the end of Saturday's soaked parade, the floats were still coming yet much of the crowd decided they had had enough of the downpour. So floats were emptying out their candy supply with not that many takers out there. I know at one point sheets of candy were thrown my way near the end of the parade. I didn't quite have the stomach for all of it so it basically stayed on the ground.
