Sizing up the NFL playoffs
January 5, 2011 - Bennet Goldstein
The NFL playoffs start this weekend on the month-long journey to the Feb. 6 Super Bowl. It was a season where the powerhouse teams seemed to change week by week but now there remains a few favorites. New England will sit this weekend out but plenty of good teams are planning to be in action Saturday and Sunday. So are the Patriots the runaway favorite? It’s hard to bet against Bill Bellchick and New England since quarterback Tom Brady is playing at a phenomenal level right now. One other team to watch is from the AFC is the Baltimore Ravens. They have a solid defense, a Ray Rice-fueled running game and quarterback Joe Flacco is steady in the pocket. Green Bay seems to be a darling pick in the NFC but the inability to run might doom the Packers. Nobody is respecting the Chicago Bears or Kansas City Chiefs right now as many think they’ve gotten by with smoke and mirrors and No. 1 seed Atlanta seems to be under the radar a bit as well in the NFC. The uncertainty heading into the playoffs may make for some exciting football. So ease back in the chair and enjoy.
