| | Prechool cuts may mean step backJanuary 21, 2011 - Andrew PotterI realize the argument both sides of the aisle are presenting on the preschool funding issue being talked about by the Legislature. A new regime focused on spending cuts shouldn’t just hack away at everything. In my work here at the paper I have seen plenty of Marshalltown preschool classes in action. Aside from the kids being so darn cute I also see structure, learning and fun going on. Preschools can get a child acclimated to the school lifestyle to get them prepared for learning in kindergarten an beyond. Iowa has made progress by leaps and bounds with the 4-year-old preschool program. I would not like to see it take a step back now. A forum about the preschool is being held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Marshalltown Public Library with Sen. Steve Sodders, D-State Center and Rep. Mark Smith, D-Marshalltown. Let your voice be known if you too have an opinion on the issue. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | |
