Dr. Douglas D. Hildebrand, age 61, of Marshalltown, passed away Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Grandview Heights Care Facility in Marshalltown.

Douglas was born April 27, 1947, the son of Ralph "Mervin" and Dorothy (Brown) Hildebrand, in Council Bluffs. On Aug. 16, 1968, Doug was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" Mortensen in Irwin.

Douglas graduated from Iowa State University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Science in 1970. Dr. Hildebrand owned the Marshalltown Veterinary Clinic from 1971 until his retirement in 2006. Doug had a passion for caring for all animals and their owners throughout his years in practice. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and spending time with his family and pets. Doug was also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Doug is survived by: his wife; Pat, of Marshalltown; his daughters, Lara Hildebrand, of Chicago, Ill., Anne Hildebrand, of Des Moines, Amber (Chad) Harre; mother; Dorothy Hildebrand, of Hancock; sisters, Barbara Hildebrand, of Sugar Land, Texas, and Jane Pierce, of Hancock; and his grandsons, Blake and Jackson Harre, all of Cottage Grove, Minn.

Doug was preceded in death by his father Mervin Hildebrand.
