Kenneth L. Halstead, 66

Kenneth L. Halstead, 66, of rural Marshalltown, died Jan. 31, 2009, at his home while in care of his loving family and Iowa River Hospice.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Friends Church in Marshalltown, with Pastors Craig and Judy Marshall officiating. A public Masonic Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Ken will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, with full military honors by VFW Harry C. Born on Nov. 29, 1942, in Vinton, Iowa, he was the son of Glen and Virginia (King) Halstead. He graduated with Vinton High School's Class of 1961 and later attended Des Moines Area Community College and Upper Iowa University receiving his degree in business management and his associate in arts degree in marketing. From 1966 to 1969, he served our country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Vietnam from 1968-1969.

Mr. Halstead sold real estate in the Des Moines area and was owner and operator of Marshall-Halstead Realty. Ken was an active member of Marshall Masonic Lodge #104 AF & AM as well as Des Moines Acanthus Lodge #32 AF & AM, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem, OES, Scottish and York Rites, served as past master of Acanthus and York bodies, American Legion and VFW, served as chair of Marshall County Republicans and attended First Friends Church in Marshalltown.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Cindy (Collins) whom he married on June 17, 1995, at First Friends Church in Marshalltown; his son, Kenneth L. (Pam) Halstead of Blairstown; six grandchildren: Kenneth III, Melanie, Emily, Lindsay, McKenzie and Savannah; Cindy's family of her daughters: Angela (Nasir) Ames of United Arab Emirates and Kati (Adam) Dingman of Albion and their child expected in May of this year; five siblings: Jacquelyn (Robert) Gihring of Garrison, Terry (Dixie) Halstead of Lee's Summit, Mo., Glenda (Ray) Roe - enjoying traveling in retirement, Donna Stevens of Garrison, Rick (Julie) Halstead of Ashburn, Va.; his mother, Virginia Millard of the Iowa Veterans Home; his father-in-law, Alvah Collins of Camdenton, Mo.; brother-in-law, Kevin (Elizabeth) Collins of Plainfield, Ill. and their children, Mallory and Anna; sister-in-law, Joyce (Buddy) Webster of Hawaii and their son, Matthew; step-brothers, Gary (Connie) Millard of Vinton and Dean (Cindy) Millard of Ft. Collins, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and his faithful companions - Reilley and Rusty - his dogs.

In death he has rejoined his father; step-father, Donald Millard; infant daughter, Christa Halstead; and mother-in-law, Yvonna Collins.
