PREP BASEBALL: Benson throws perfect game in Rebel rout

ELDORA - Scott Benson pitched a five-inning perfect game for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, dealing 13 strikeouts and nothing else as G-R defeated South Hardin 10-0 in NICL West Division play here on Thursday night.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck improves to 7-1 in conference play and 11-4 overall.

Derek Wood and Drew Babinat both went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Babinat had a three-run homer and finished with five RBIs.

Benson was 1-for-2 with an RBI double as well.

Both G-R and South Hardin will be at the GMG Tournament on Saturday.

East Marshall 7, West Marshall 6

GILMAN - East Marshall's Taylor Johnson struck out eight and the Mustangs pulled ahead of West Marshall with the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning for a 7-6 NICL West win Thursday.

West Marshall's Joe Disney gave up eight hits in seven innings with seven strikeouts and six walks. Disney also hit an RBI double to tie the game at 6-all in the sixth after West Marshall rallied for four runs.

Jacob Chapman was 2-for-4 with three stolen bases for East Marshall. Johnson, who went all seven innings for the win, was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

John Bloom and Dakotah Wolken both went 2-for-4 while Phil Rubenbauer and Nolan Benzing both went 1-for-3. Benzing added a run scored and an RBI.

The Mustangs (9-9, 6-4) head to Centerville today to play in the Big Red Tournament, starting at 4 p.m. against Moulton-Udell.

West Marshall (9-9, 5-5) got two hits apiece from Bradyn Beals, Tanner Stalzer and Robert Fouts. Beals had two RBIs and two stolen bases, Stalzer scored once and Fouts had a run and an RBI.

North Tama 10, BCLUW 9

TRAER - North Tama's early lead held up against BCLUW in a 10-9, non-conference victory for the Redhawks.

Jon Koob and Caleb Edwards both had two hits and two RBIs for North Tama (9-6), while Pete Kopriva was 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The Redhawks play tonight at Janesville back in Iowa Star Conference action.
