A phenomenon that is sweeping the nation is coming to Marshalltown, as the city is getting its very own "TEA Party."
The event will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Marshall County Courthouse. The public is invited to attend and lawn chairs are recommended.
TEA stands for "Taxed Enough Already."
The event coincides with the celebration of America's Independence Day. It was on July 4, 1776 that America began its own pursuit for individual freedoms: life liberty and the pursuit of happiness, according to local organizer Jane Jech.
"It's an obvious connection. We're taking a stand for those same freedoms today that we see being eroded and attacked across the nation," she said.
The event is just one of several around the state and more than 1,300 across the country. In addition, TEA Parties will be attended by many who have been energized and inspired to continue the struggle to maintain our freedoms here at home today, according to organizers.
Jech said the event is meant to give people who feel disenfranchised about the current direction of the country a platform to voice their feelings and concerns.
The events are billed as rallies for those with concerns and frustrations about tax growth, courts that usurp authority, and government growth.
