PREP BASEBALL: West Marshall keeps Rebels from outright league crown

REINBECK - Joe Disney struck out 16 as West Marshall defeated NICL West Division baseball leader Gladbrook-Reinbeck 7-2 Thursday.

The Trojans' win coupled with BCLUW's win over South Hardin creates a tie in the final league standings between Gladbrook-Reinbeck and BCLUW at 10-2.

Disney limited the Rebels to five hits and two unearned in his complete game. He helped his own cause with a 2-for-3 night at the plate with a double and RBI.

Dalton Ferch led an energized West Marshall offense with four stolen bases and two runs scored.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck starting pitcher Drew Babinat held the Trojans to four hits, but was hurt by seven walks and several G-R errors. Babinat finished with eight strikeouts.

West Marshall (12-10, 7-5) heads to Aplington-Parkersburg Monday.

BCLUW 14, South Hardin 12

ELDORA - BCLUW rallied from an eight-run deficit to earn a share of the NICL West championship.

The Comets (16-6, 10-2) trailed 11-3 to South Hardin before scoring 11 unanswered runs.

Shane Kruse went 3-for-5 at the plate for BCLUW with two doubles and a home run.

Wade Morris added three hits with a double, triple and two RBIs, while Tanner Dielschneider had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Nick Crawford also drove in two on the night.

Morris was the winning pitcher, throwing the final 4 2/3 innings in relief. He allowed three runs and finished with six strikeouts.

BCLUW hosts a four-team tournament today in Beaman. Play begins at 10:30 a.m. with East Marshall facing Dike-New Hartford. The Comets face Sumner-Fredericksburg in the final first-round game.

East Marshall 9, AGWSR 1

GILMAN - A seven-run fourth inning provided the offense as East Marshall worked past AGWSR Thursday in NICL West action.

Four Mustangs had two-hit nights in Jacob Chapman, Luke Wilson, Josh Wilson and Dakotah Wolken. Phil Rubenbauer drove in a team-high three.

Ryan Rice went all seven innings on the mound for East Marshall (12-11, 8-4). Rice allowed one earned run on two hits, while striking out three.

North Tama 16, Grundy Center 1, 4 inn.

TRAER - Caleb Edwards had a home run for the second consecutive night as North Tama made quick work of Grundy Center.

Edwards finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. He also was on the hill, picking up the win as he allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in four innings.

Brendon Boerm added two hits, three runs scored and three RBIs for North Tama (14-7). Jon Koob had a double and three RBIs, while Tyler Cizek drove in a pair.

The Redhawks travel to Tripoli tonight in a game to decided the runner-up spot in the Iowa Star Conference.
