Reasons to believe in our young people

POSTED: July 18, 2009

You hear the question posed often.

"What is wrong with our youth nowadays?"

People call them disrespectful, lewd and vulgar. You would be hard-pressed to find any of that behavior among the children at the Central Iowa Fair this past week. As we covered events throughout the week, the 4-H members could not have been more respectful and kind.

What sticks out about these children is they actually care. They care about their projects or animals they devoted a year to working on. They care what the judges think of their work. And they care about others at the fair.

Oh, and here is a new one, they were happy. You could not walk 10 feet without seeing a smile. One 4-H member we did a story was so wide-eyed to be interviewed by a reporter you could tell it was very special to her.

A hat's off to a job well done by the 4-H youth and their supporters at the fair this year. We know you are helping ensure the future is bright.

I find that this generation of youth are the products of their materialistic parents and crave attention as well. Some will do anything for publicity, for notice, as indicated by this "editorial>"

There is a wall ten feet high and ten feet wide between these kids and poor kids, and we live in a socity that doesn't seem to care and actually seems to have hostility toward the poor or less fortunate.

A group like this COULD mark success by how many poor kids they got involved in their 4 H.

There are very few kids that participate in the 4H program that are impoverished. Even the ones that are poor have the ability to transport, feed and get veterinarian care for their animals. They have advantages that the average child cant attain, no wonder they are happy. Give them another 10 years to taste the reality of life and see how many of them are still smiling.

Ive been waiting weeks and this is the best view the T-R can come up with, I think it is time to start reading the DM Register.
