Iowa can lead in clean energy
Eric Nost, Environment Iowa, Des MoinesIowa has the awesome potential to advance its position as a leader in the new clean energy economy.
Sen. Udall has introduced a bill in the Energy and Natural Resources Committee that would put the nation on the by requiring all electricity to be sourced from renewables like wind and solar by 2025.
Wind power is already taking off here in Iowa. In fact, clean energy has been a hot sector in our economy in recent years. According to a survey of green businesses by the Pew Charitable Trusts (www.pewglobalwarming.org/cleanenergyeconomy/), job growth in Iowa's nascent clean energy economy has been nearly seven times as fast as in the economy as a whole over the past decade 26.1 percent growth in green businesses compared with 3.6 percent in all businesses combined.
Our own Senators should sign onto this bill as co-sponsors, demonstrating to their constituents that they see a bright economic and environmental future ahead for the state.
