Incidents

On Wednesday an employee with Maidrite, 106 S. 3rd Ave., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $1,043.11.

Accidents

On Wednesday a pickup driven by David Carl Spillman of Garwin was northbound in the inside lane on Highway 14 when due to a non-contact vehicle beside it in the outside lane swerving to miss a bicyclist which had entered Highway 14 from the east crossing to the west, it swerved and collided with the bicycle ridden by Brian Brown, 1108 May St., as it crossed a path in front. Brown was transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Damage to the Brown bicycle was estimated at $50 while the Spillman pickup received a $1,000 in damage.

On Tuesday a car driven by Marvin Edward Reese of Gladbrook was eastbound on East Olive Street, stopped at the intersection with South 18th Avenue, then proceeded into the intersection into the path of a vehicle driven by Randall Gene Burnes of Tama which was travelling south on 18th Avenue and a collision occurred. Burnes was injured, but not transported while Reese and passenger, Eunice Jane Reese also of Gladbrook were transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Damage to the Reese car was estimated at $18,000 while the Burnes vehicle received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

On Tuesday a school bus driven by Robert Henry Gray, 514 E. Olive St. #202, was northbound on Marsh Avenue and entered the intersection with 280th Street driving in front of a car driven by Cassandra Marie Ehrman of Haverhill at which time a collision occurred. Ehrman was transported to Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Gray was cited for failure to yield upon entering through highway. Damage to the Gray school bus was estimated at $5,000 while the Ehrman car received an estimated $6,000 in damage.

Associate Court

Nov. 4

Rachel Nordstrom of Albion made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule II Controlled substance (Ice) charge. A Public Defender was appointed to handle her case. The Preliminary Hearing was set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 23. Nordstrom was released on her own recognizance with her bond conditions continuing and ordered to obtain a substance abuse evaluation.

Trevor Muller, 1409 W. Main St., made an initial appearance on an interference with official acts charge and a violation of no-contact order charge. He was represented by counsel. A Contempt Hearing was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Nov. 16. Muller was ordered to turn over an firearms to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and bond was set at $1,000.

Kyle Brown, 1611 Elder Dr., made an initial appearance on a failure to appear for a contempt hearing warrant. His file will be transferred to District Court. An attorney was appointed to represent Brown. Bond was set at $1,000.

David Bryant of Collins made an initial appearance on a serious domestic assault charge. An attorney was appointed to represent Bryant. His Preliminary Hearing was set for 1 p.m. on Nov. 23. Bryant was released on his own recognizance. A no-contact order was set in place and Bryant was ordered to turn any firearms he possessed over to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.

Nov. 5

Justin Wise, 406 Melody Lane, and Clemons made an initial appearance on a theft, 5th degree charge and disorderly conduct charge at Wal-Mart, 2802 S. Center St. He entered a plea of not guilty and made an application for a court-appointed attorney. The Preliminary Hearing date was set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 8 in Magistrate Court. Wise was released on his own recognizance.

Andrew Perry of Cedar Rapids made an initial appearance on a trespass and a failure to appear for an initial hearing on a driving without owner's consent warrant. An application to revoke probation was presented. A Probation Revocation Hearing date was set for 10:41 a.m. on Nov. 16 with the trespass charge to be heard as well. Bond was set for Perry at $2,000.

Arrests

On Monday Earl Ople Ray Jr. of Liscomb was arrested for serious domestic assault.

On Sunday Bryan Kenneth Smith Jr., 1813 Edgebrook Dr., was arrested for driving under suspension, speeding and failure to obey a stop sign.

On Saturday Emanuel Francis Ngor of Des Moines was arrested on a local warrant.

On Oct. 29, Michael Robert Fouts of State Center was arrested for serious domestic assault.

On Oct. 26, Jonathan David Hill, 304 S. 16th Ave., was arrested for driving under the influence.

On Oct. 24, Timothy Allen Rahn of Ferguson was arrested for simple domestic assault and two counts of serious domestic assault.

On May 21, Jonathan Kay Davis, 5 E. Grant St. Apt. #1, and the Polk County Jail was arrested for possession of drug equipment and a drug offense.

Accidents

On Monday a car driven by Theresa A. McCombs, 9 N. 6th St., was southbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the McCombs car was estimated at $1,500.

On Sunday a vehicle driven by Manivong Vohn Khongmaly-Lu of Mitchellville was travelling south/southwest on Highway 330 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Khongmaly-Lu vehicle was estimated at $5,000.

On Sunday a car driven by Denise Joan Spinler, 205 S. 8th Ave., was eastbound on 190th Street when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Spinler car was estimated at $3,500.

On Sunday a minivan driven by Timothy Lynn Seim of Garwin was northbound on Highway 330 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Seim minivan was estimated at $2,500.

On Saturday a pickup driven by Deverne Douglas Hoffstetter of Searsboro was northbound on Highway 146 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Hoffstetter pickup was estimated at $3,000.

On Saturday a minivan driven by Burton Eugene Shattuck of Ferguson was westbound on 290th Street when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Shattuck minivan was estimated at $3,500.

On Oct. 30 a car driven by Ryan Rondalee Laville of Ames was eastbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Laville car was estimated at $3,500.
