Iowa's past runs into the present in this year's NCAA women's basketball tournament.

The Hawkeyes received an at-large bid as the bracket was unveiled Monday and No. 8 seed Iowa squares off with No. 9 Rutgers.

The first-round pairing has a 7:16 p.m. tip-off Saturday in Stanford, Calif., and is part of the Sacramento Regional.

Iowa stands 19-13 for the season and faces a 19-14 Scarlet Knight squad.

Rutgers, an at-large pick from the Big East, is led by C. Vivian Stringer, who was the head coach for the Hawkeyes from 1983-95.

"I think that they are really excited about the seed and the opportunity to go out to Stanford and play," Iowa head coach Lisa Bluder said at a press conference after the Selection Show.

"It's been an amazing run. I'm really proud of these women for what they've done and how they've accomplished it."

Stringer had a 269-84 mark in Iowa City and had a run of nine straight NCAA tournament trips.

"It just makes it even more exciting than it already is," said Iowa freshman Jaime Printy. "Seeing our name pop up and then we're playing Rutgers, Coach Bluder against Coach Stringer, it will just be fun, a lot of fun."

Bluder has guided the Hawkeyes to the NCAA tournament now for the seventh time in her 10 years. This is Iowa's third straight appearance in the field of 64.

The Iowa-Rutgers winner advances to a Monday second-round matchup with either No. 1 Stanford or No. 16 UC Riverside.
