On April 27, 200 outstanding Iowa volunteers prepared for shipment 29,500 boxes of cookies and 4,000 cans of nuts for our brave servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan. Iowa's Bravest in conjunction with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois helped raise over $128,000 of cookies and nuts through their "Troop 2 Troop" project, and an additional $15,000 for postage.
This year marks the largest number of troops deployed from Iowa, and the efforts of our volunteers, generous contributors and Girl Scouts, makes this the largest shipment ever attempted by Iowa's Bravest. These gifts were shipped to every Iowa Army National Guard unit, Army and Marine Reserves, and enlisted servicemen and women. An additional 250 boxes of cookies were shipped to our injured Iowa soldiers.
Our thanks go out to all who participated in this event. A project like this would not be possible without the dedication and commitment our community members continue to show to our Iowa's Bravest.
Please consider helping with our holiday project in November. There are many opportunities for all ages to get involved and provide our Iowa's Bravest and their families the recognition they deserve. For information: www.IowasBravest.org, Julie at 319-232-3795, juliea58@mchis.com.
