With the Marshalltown City Council having three vacancies on the Nov. 8 ballot, the City Clerk's Office announced there will be two uncontested seats, with one receiving no nominations as of the 5 p.m. deadline Thursday.
"Two candidates have thrown their hats into the ring and they're both running unopposed," said City Clerk Shari Coughenour. "Unfortunately we don't have a candidate for the At Large position."
Cinderella (Cindy) Mayer is running for election representing the 2nd Ward, currently held by Andrea Maxwell, who will not be seeking another term due to job commitments.
Incumbent Al Hoop will also be running unopposed representing the 4th Ward.
Patrick Stansberry, who currently holds the At Large position, will not seek re-election.
"Though I have enjoyed my time on the council, I am planning on starting grad school and would not have the time to devote to the city council," he said Thursday evening. "I am excited for all the positive things going on in town and hope to continue my involvement in the community."
Therefore, the At Large vacancy will be filled by ballot write-in.
Newly elected members will take office Jan. 1.
